Install Strix Linux

From ISO to a working Arch desktop in under 20 minutes.

Installing on real hardware

1

Download the ISO

Grab the latest Strix Linux ISO from the download page. It's a ~2.5 GB file.

2

Flash to a USB drive (8 GB+)

Use Balena Etcher on Windows/Mac, or dd on Linux:

sudo dd if=strix-2026.05.24-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress oflag=sync
# Replace /dev/sdX with your USB device (use lsblk to find it)
3

Boot from USB

Restart your PC and press F2, F12, or Del to open the boot menu. Select your USB drive. Strix will boot directly to the KDE Plasma desktop.

4

Launch the installer

Double-click Install Strix Linux on the desktop, or open Konsole and run:

sudo strix-install
5

Follow the guided installer

The TUI installer walks you through:

  • Disk selection and partitioning (auto or manual)
  • Filesystem โ€” ext4 or btrfs
  • Hostname, username, and password
  • Timezone and locale
  • Desktop environment (KDE, GNOME, XFCE, Hyprland, i3, or none)
  • Optional extra software and AUR helper
6

Reboot and enjoy

The installer sets up GRUB, enables your services, and exits. Remove the USB and reboot into your new Strix system.
